Innovate for Health Project

Banyan Global is the prime implementer of the USAID-funded Saving Maternity Homes in Ghana, Innovate for Health Project. This program focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing private maternity homes in Ghana, piloting an innovative approach to revitalize the private maternity sector in underserved areas. The project is working with existing private maternity home owners who may be nearing retirement on “transformation” options – selling the facility, leasing out the facility, bringing on a partner, bringing on a manager, or bringing on a specialist who will enable the facility to diversify its service offerings. New owners and/or managers may be other private maternity home owners, public sector midwives looking to transition to the private sector, other health professionals, or non-health professionals seeking investment opportunities. Ultimately, this program has the potential to increase access, improve efficiencies and expand quality maternal-child healthcare in rural areas. Banyan Global is also conducting operations research to examine the impact of programming and generate lessons learned for future replication. Banyan Global is implementing the project in partnership with the Ghana Registered Midwives Association.
